We were to meet at the bar down the street for coffee at 7:15. I went down at 7:00 and I was the last one there.
Here are some more pictures of this truly weird town.
Today's walk was really nice. It was shorter and on nicer roads and trails. There was much less traffic and on many of the roads none. We walked farm paths with low stone walls both sides. The sun came out.
I tell people I'm from California; not the US Today an old guy asked Francisco who is Portuguese where we were all from and when he found out I was US, he said a lot of words in Portuguese and I heard Trump a few times. Francisco translated as "He doesn't like Trump".
We took a coffee and pastry break in the town of Ansião where they seemed to be doing a lot of house renovations. It was a prosperous looking town.
Just out of Ansião, we decided to shave a few kilometers and stay on the road rather than follow the Camino into the woods and between farms. It saved us quite a bit of time and we had too many injuries to be purists.
We stopped for another break at a gas station cafe with about 4km to go. It was only about 1pm and we sunned outside the cafe looking at the gas pumps. I told my honeymoon story of the time I filled the rental car with gasaleo instead of gasoline. Gasaleo is diesel. It all worked out and we had some fun.
It wasn't far to the albergues. Turn off the paved road, up a hill with freshly graded gravel and through the woods. The albergue was really nice and the had single rooms. I regretted my booking which I still had to walk 3km to.
I had a meal because there was no food at my place. And a couple of beers. We sat on the deck in the sun. It was still only 3pm. Every other day we still had 8km of walking at that time.
I walked to my place which is really nice - other than being 3km off the Camino. I got some snacks at a gas station cafe/market along the way. This area looks like well off country living for people working in Coimbra.
Since they only did electronic payment using European apps I didn't have I had to pay cash. The place was entirely self check-in so Maria Paula said she would stop by for it after she dealt with the grandkids. We chatted for a bit and she said she had done the Camino. She wanted me to go look at the gardens and pool but realized from the way I was hobbling and standing funny that I wasn't likely to do that. You could probably do a wedding here on the grounds but I think it only had 6 bedrooms. There is a restaurant area and the grounds are quite large.
Anyway, I am not checking it out. After finishing my laundry I have only got up a few times from this very comfortable bed in the last 4 hours. And now time for bed.
