Day 23 - Molinaseca to Villafranca del Bierzo

Last night Barb, Robert and I met for dinner at the only open place in town on a Sunday night.  The place was run by Domingo who took care of us all night and sent us off with some sort of liquor shots.

We agreed to head out at 7am and we were all on the street then.  We walked in the dark until we were on the outskirts of Ponferrado which is a pretty big city.  As we moved through the suburbs we found a bar/grocery store and got coffee and treats.

As we got into the old city of Ponferrado it became quite nice with old castles and churches.  We deposited Barb at her hotel and said goodbye.  Robert and I continued on together.

From Molinaseca to Ponferrado and beyond was on hard sidewalks.  Most of the day was hard surfaces and it took it's toll.  My feet are quite tender as I write this.  There wasn't much in the way of breaks from towns for a long time.

We had lunch in Cacabelos which at first didn't look like such a great town but got quite pretty in the old town.

After Cacabelos we started walking through vinyards and rolling hills.  The sun even poked out every now and then.  Walking became very pleasant.

Finally we arrived in Villafranca del Bierzo which is a very pretty town. There are an unusual number of large old chuches in this town.  The town is on a river at te foot of the mountains.  Arriving in town we had a beer before heading to our respective accomodations.

I tried to book tomorrow in the next town which is at the end of a very big climb.  There was nothing available and I booked in a larger town on the main road 2km away.  This may make my day much easier or harder.  I hope easier as it is a big climb at the end of the day.
