I was on the road in the dark just after 7 and missed Camino exit from town and followed the road out of town for a few hundred meters. I checked my Camino Ninja app and backtracked into town. I was passing an albergue and someone came out. As I passed them I saw it was one of the Italian girls that was always at the far end of some table a group was at. She is Sara from Turin and we talked for a bit later when she caught up to me having coffee.
It was dark until well after 8. I can notice it getting later each day. Some trees are also turning. I expect if the trees still have leaves it should be colourful when we get to some place that has more trees.
Today was like yesterday except the weather was nicer. Not a great photo day.
After the coffee place where I may have taken one of the proprietors churros it was a long dull stretch to Sahagun. There Sara and Alejandro and dog caught up to me when I stopped to air my feet. Getting my shoes off regularly really helps me. The town looked kind of interesting and they stopped for coffee as I pressed on.
After Sahagun I needed music to help me keep going. I saw the guys from Hokkaido and played leapfrog for the rest of the day. They are at the same hostal tonight. I saw them in the first few km out of St Jean. I sat down with them today but communication is very difficult.
Around noon a town appeared and I had a chorizo sandwich, cafe con leche and coke. Sitting near me were Mark and Jessica from Dallas. They said they had seen me around but I guess I had not seen them. Apparently we have been on the same pace for a long time.
More music and I reached my destination, El Burgo Renero, just after 2pm. I had not booked ahead because none of the places in this town were on any booking sites. The place the had the best rating had rooms so it worked out.
This town is pretty small and I walked around it in about 10 minutes. Many of the church steeples have large bird nests on them. I have no idea what sport this court is for but it has stands for spectators.
After a bit of a lay down I went downstairs to the patio bar and there was New Jersey Tom from dinner in Burgos. We started talking and I got a beer. Soon we were joined by Thomas from Germany (a second one!) and Fergus from England. Marie joined and found out that she is not going all the way to Leon and I might not see her again 😢.
Boti from Texas joined the group. He's just out of high school! Youth is wasted on the young.
Tom is planning to walk through the night to catch the sun rise over Leon. He got supplies: bread, wine, tuna. I bet I find him asleep on the side of the Camino tomorrow.
Tom, Boti, Fregis and I had a decent menu del dia for 13€ at the bar/restaurant/hostal here. I had a very nice bean soup and roast chicken.
Now early to bed. Good night!
